Paul Harvey
“Hello Americans, I’m Paul Harvey. You know what the news is, in a minute, you’re going to hear … the rest of the story”. For decades millions of people heard those words, and waited through the commercials to hear “the rest of the story”. Print cannot do justice to Harvey’s inflective delivery. His pregnant pauses and tone changes added a singular uniqueness to his stories. Over the years I have caught his show that ran 6 days a week, mainly just in snipits, usually when my father had the show on while we were driving somewhere.
The longevity of his show and popularity was amazing. I still remember riding up a hill on RAGBRAI back in 1995,on a day when the temperature felt like it was 1,995. There was a rider that I passed who had a radio on his bike and there was Paul Harvey’s voice and he was telling his listeners about the weather someplace in the Unites States. “And how hot was it? in a minute, you’re going to hear… the rest of the story”. The over-heated rider with the radio wheezed, that he he didn’t need to wait, he “already know how hot it was”.
Rest in peace Paul Harvey.

Greetings, Mr. Duffy…Your Paul Harvey carton is a true classic. Can I order one in color? I met him for about 30 minutes at his office in the 1970′s. What an awesome human being. Ten years latter we were walking a path at the Greenbrier toward each other (his wife with him) and he shouted, “Warren, how are you?” They were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
