03/12/09 Omnibus bill

Pigs outnumber people 6 to 1 here in the Hawkeye state. The hog industry brings $12 billion to the state. You can now add $1.7 million more. The $410 billion omnibus spending bill that slid through congress and was signed by President Obama contained that amount to fight hog odors in the state. It was one of the over 8,500 earmarks
worth more than $7 billions that was stuffed into the bill. Well not really stuffed into the bill seeing as that these earmarks make up less than 2% of the overall spending.  But when you run for President and against earmarks well, it tends to cause a stink, so to say, when you sign a bill with that many earmarks in it.
But as we say here in Iowa, when asked what that tear-inducing stink is, “”that’s the smell of money”.

I LOVED your cartoon in today’s Dallas Morning News! While conservative Bible thumpers like me might have longed to see a jewel in the snout of a pig, I think that all it really needed to meet the Washington dress code was lipstick! I am headed for the link to your store, just in case you have it for sale on low adic, museum grade paper, suitable for framing!

    Tallyho!

Really like your cartoons which I have seen in the San Antonio Express News – believe we need a cartoon about one of our highways that we can’t get built because of red tape with Fed Highway Admin, Texas Dept of Highways, etc – if this is something you can do let me know and I can give some details – keep on drawing!
