A friend from Missouri told me that:
“…those ‘prairie skyscrapers’ are a thing of the past down here..we had one identical to his painting here along the edge of town for many years until Burlington Northern decided they were a liability and decided to tear every last one of them down. Seems people would go inside the abandoned buildings and someone got hurt and decided to sue the railroad which owned them.”
That specific elevator is outside Slater, and I think it is still standing, but I am not sure.
