It is harvest time here in the Midwest and the present crop of Democratic candidates for Governor, both incumbents and new candidates look to be heading straight to the dumpster. The Virginia-based Public Policy Poll shows the present Democratic chief executives have stunted approval ratings, to say the least. Of the six Midwest states surveyed which include Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Wisconsin, the average job approval rating for the present Democratic office holder is roughly 28%, which by the way is exactly what the poll says Chet Culver’s positive numbers are.

The reasons given for the poor showing are numerous, and include a lack of enthusiasm by democratic voters, a souring mood towards the present occupant of the White House, the loss of a big chunk of Independents, and a general “dislike” for those now holding office. I am sure that you could throw in the continuing recession into the mix. Nix that last one, according to the nations leading economists the recession is over.

A peak at latest The Rasmussen Reports survey of Gubernatorial races in the Midwest States examined in the Public Policy Poll, including those Midwest states not covered in the poll, indicate all but Minnesota “leaning” or “solidly” in the Republican camp.

Looks like it is shaping up to be a bitter harvest for Democrats.
